Yesterday we began the journey through the Bible! The first two chapters establish Who the author is and how creation all began. The Fall of man is recorded in chapter three and now we begin to encounter the nuclei of all biblical doctrine.

Reading the Bible is essential for our growth, maturity, and effectiveness as a disciple of Jesus Christ. In stating this, I would like to invite you to read with me through the scriptures chronologically. I will provide Monday through Friday reading plans.

There is much divisiveness in our world today. It seems that more is written in the news today of death, war, strife and suffering than ever before. The airwaves are filled with the vengeance of individuals and of countries threatening one another. Where is the peace on earth that is promised?

It is so important that certain traditions are preserved by families each year. Somehow it is not Christmas unless those annual rituals are kept and cherished. It could be the reading of Scripture before opening gifts or the making of a special meal that will create memories among the family.

While many have never seen an angel, the belief of them is strong and continues to be intriguing to both believers and non-church goers. From early in the writings of scripture (Genesis 3) through the end of Revelation, angelic beings play a significant role in the lives of mankind.

As we enter the week leading up to Christmas, we may be involved in a multitude of events. There will be last minute shopping, travel, and other items that will seek to drown out the special celebration of Christ's birth. As you rush in and out of stores, travel to see family or events, perhaps you can enjoy the wonder of Christmas by catching snippets of Christmas songs playing in the background.

What brings Joy to the World? For many it is the blessing of work, financial advancement, relationships, or family. I truly love when all my family is in one place and the house is alive with activity and noise. While all these objects or people can bring a degree of happiness, the only One that brings true joy is God Himself!

When I was growing up Christmas was a very special day. After the presents were opened at our home, we would meet at our Grandpa Miller's place. All the aunts and uncles, cousins and others would come to Grandpa and Grandma's place for an afternoon of family fun and activities. The counters, tables and about any space that could hold a bowl or plate was filled with the food and desserts that would come in that day. Everyone was expected and everyone was faithful to come.

Anticipation is such a part of Christmas, especially for children! Families and Sunday School teachers have recounted the miracle of the first Christmas down through the ages. In our day, the story of Christmas is still one of anticipation as people tell of the coming of Christ's birth with the expectancy of His return as Sovereign King instead of a baby in the manger.

The advent is about the two arrivals of Jesus Christ! The first is what we have been anticipating as we draw near to December 25th to celebrate the birth of the Messiah, our Savior. The second is when Jesus will return to earth to establish His kingdom and He will rule and reign forever as Sovereign Lord!
